The history of the Cammino

Following the traces of historical events dating back to the XIII century, at the end of the Middle Age, and according with the current geographical and ambient vision, the Movimento Celestiniano has reconstructed the spiritual and humanistic paths that characterized that age, such intense and full of contrasts. The Cammino del Perdono arises from the desire of rediscover those elements and figures that improved peace between peoples in war during the Christian Crusades. Forgiveness was the key to open those people to the peace, to end the Crusades and to close the darkness of the Middle Age, laying the foundation of our modern society and creating the values that today we still recognize as common to people of the whole world, even those apparently in conflict. Moving along the most important places of that age, relevant about the story and the life of Saint Pietro Celestino V and of others important figures of that time (Federico II, the Sultan El Kamil, Saint Francesco from Assisi), we created five different, unique and amazing routes, that flow through destination that the most of people ignore, able to grant to the visitors an emotional and transcendental journey. The paths are deeply connected to Christianity and Christian spirituality, but they are full of the different cultures and religions that over the centuries melted their experiences.  The current society and political condition, full of deep contrasts among religions and fundamentalisms, the revival and resurfacing of the terrorist threat, rearises the tense condition of the Middle Age, even though the situation appears as reversed after almost one thousand years. Therefore, the message of Forgiveness becomes actual and useful to lead back to the hope of peace and alliance among different peoples.

Forgiveness and mutual acceptance are able to create unbreakable balance and peace. This historical need turns the Cammino del Perdono in something more than just a tourist route. Through our paths, in fact, it is possible to better understand the past situation, and how difficult it was, and the solution that led to tolerance, peace and mutual growth. It is a pole of study, a cultural process, a tool for local valorization and it is open to all cultures, all religions, to any person of any social condition and background. The clear purpose it pursues is to offer a chance of growing, understanding, socializing, analyzing, introspecting, in places and conditions that are unique and unrepeatable, since they bear the mark of “Forgiveness as instrument to reach peace”. The Cammino del Perdono uses the tourist experience to create an emotional and cultural condition impossible to classify into the standards of age, religion or income. It wants to establish itself as model of sustainable, intercultural and interreligious tourism, on the international and global level. It is not just a tourist system but a pole of research and a way of reconstructing those proceedings that realized the peace and marked the history of Humanity, proceedings that seem now so very actual, current and futurist. It can teach a model of tolerance, mutual enrichment, coexistence, each of them universal and open to all human beings.
